What Is Dental Bullying?

It's the teasing, the nicknames, the laughter in a lecture hall — aimed at someone's teeth. It sounds small to everyone except the person it happens to.

Dental bullying is when a person is mocked, nicknamed, imitated or excluded because of how their teeth look — spacing, crowding, colour, a missing tooth, an overbite. It happens in classrooms, hostels, group chats and comment sections.

It is rarely reported, because it's rarely taken seriously. But students living with it tell us the same things:

  • • They stopped smiling in photographs, or learned to smile with their lips closed.
  • • They cover their mouth when they laugh or speak.
  • • They avoid presentations, interviews and speaking up in class.
  • • They pulled back from friendships, dating and social events.
  • • They started believing the joke was the truth about them.

No. What you share with your counsellor stays between you and them. We do not contact your school, your classmates or your parents about your conversation.

If it made you self-conscious about your smile, it counts. You do not need to prove anything or justify how you feel before reaching out — just send a message and start the conversation.

No. Registration is free and commits you to nothing. It reserves your free assessment slot and connects you with our team. You decide what happens next, entirely at your own pace.
